The Christopher Columbus sculpture, “A Light Will Appear,” by Jerime Hooley, is complete and awaiting its final patina. The greater-than-life-size piece features carefully placed details and symbolism throughout. As Hooley states, “Columbus has a map, a candle, an anchor and in his left hand he holds a caliper. His right hand is extended to acknowledge the miraculous light appearing in the distance while the left hand, with calipers, is pointing to his heart. Since the caliper is a measurement device, and it’s pointing to his heart, it speaks to the distance between God's Will and that of Columbus, and how perhaps in this moment that distance has closed so much that they are essentially, and briefly, one. This is the recipe of a miracle. These are the precious moments when God shapes history.”
“A Light Will Appear” will be housed in the American Covenant Garden.
