Columbus in the foundry molding stage

Our Christopher Columbus sculpture, “The Light Will Appear” has completed its enlargement and has been sent to the foundry for molding and bronzing.

This greater-than-life-size sculpture has carefully placed details and symbolism throughout. Sculptor, Jerime Hooley, states, “Columbus has a map, a candle, an anchor and in his left hand he holds a caliper. His right hand is extended to acknowledge the miraculous light appearing in the distance while the left hand, with calipers, is pointing to his heart. Since the caliper is a measurement device, and it’s pointing to his heart, it speaks to the distance between God's Will and that of Columbus, and how perhaps in this moment that distance has closed so much that they are essentially, and briefly, one. This is the recipe of a miracle. These are the precious moments when God shapes history.”

The bronze sculpture will be complete in July.
